Noisy Neighbors

Noisy neighbors can really make it hard to get to sleep or stay asleep.

If neighbors are consistently keeping you awake, no doubt you've tried the obvious solution of asking them to kindly keep it down. If you haven't, don't assume the worst...they may be unaware they are creating a disturbance. If they are aware of the impact on others, yet continue regardless, check your local ordinance for local noise laws that will stipulate times, types and volume of noise in neighborhoods. If the situation doesn't improve, you can warn your neighbor in writing that you will have to notify the authorities if they don't follow the ordinance. You can then ask the police to intervene.

If you are a tenant, you are entitled to quiet enjoyment of the property. If the neighbor persists in being indifferent to your requests, you can notify the landlord of the situation and ask for their intervention.

Sometimes this isn't possible or doesn't help and you've simply got to find a way to sleep despite the noise.

If you are likely to have an ongoing problem with unwanted outside noise, you could consider soundproof windows and soundproof curtains.

Snoring earplugs are designed of block out unwanted noise...it doesn't only have to be snoring!

If you don't like the idea of having plugs in your ears, another option is to mask the unwanted sounds. White noise machines are designed for this purpose. More simply, you could also try playing the radio or other preferred music.
